Country governments manage a broad spectrum of supplies with different levels of complexity.

The Cold Chain Support Package (CCSP) aims to provide focused technical assistance, tools and information to enable an efficient and effective procurement process for cold chain products and services - thus contributing to the success of national immunization programmes.

Before ordering vaccines, a fully functional cold chain system for receiving and safely storing the vaccines must be ensured. This document provides guidance to country governments on Cold Chain equipment to:

ensure safe and potent vaccines are delivered and administered to children and mothers;
reduce costs by minimising vaccine wastage;
avoid downtime of equipment through stock-keeping of essential spare parts;
sensitise countries on the necessity for cold chain equipment inventory systems for management purposes.
